Paul Akhurst is an experienced facility manager who has worked in the U.K. and Australia, he has recently moved to the Netherlands. Paul has successfully led facility management teams in pre-eminent public buildings including Sydney Opera House, CarriageWorks Performing Arts Centre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Arts Centre Melbourne and Perth Arena. His achievements include preparing strategic asset management plans, building conservation, team building, and leading BIM and CMMS implementation projects. Paul has researched and published in the areas of building conservation and BIM in FM, the latter with Curtin University's Sustainable Built Environment National Research Centre.
An active member of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA), Paul is working with the FMA to review its Diploma in FM and create an 'FM Foundations' course. He was awarded ‘FMA Member of the Year’ for leadership in education and professional development.
